Overview

Global History & Geography social studies is a four course of study that features a chronological approach to the broad sweep of human history, beginning with the origins of societies and civilizations and continuing to the present.  The course, organized by eras, is followed by a rigorous New York State Regents examination at the end of your studies.  The Regents exam tests content knowledge from all four Global courses and students’ ability to apply that content through responses to fifty multiple choice questions, one thematic essay, and document-based questions and an essay.

The Global History and Geography core curriculum is designed to focus on the five social studies standards and common themes that recur across time and place.  This curriculum provides students with the opportunity to explore what is happening in various regions and civilizations at a given time.  In addition, it enables them to investigate issues and themes from multiple perspectives and make global connections and linkages that lead to in-depth understanding.  As students explore the five social studies standards, they should have the opportunity to explore the content and intellectual skills of these disciplines.
